Group Therapy

Our therapists offer group therapy sessions tailored to specific client populations or shared experiences, as needs and interest arise. These sessions provide a supportive space where participants can connect with others facing similar challenges, share experiences, and build skills together. Past groups have included topics such as social skills development for boys with autism and emotional wellness support for adult women navigating life transitions. The availability of group therapy depends on the needs of both established and new clients, and sessions are only offered during certain times of the year based on demand and scheduling considerations.

Play Therapy

The Association for Play Therapy website reports that trained therapists “use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.” Play is the language of children, and play therapy allows children to express themselves through developmentally appropriate means. Therapists using play techniques engage children in using toys, art and craft materials, games, sand tray, and active outdoor play in their counseling sessions. Through playful and expressive activities, therapists teach children about thoughts and feelings, emotional expression and coping skills, behavioral regulation strategies, social skills, and other skills to help them resolve difficulties and utilize their strengths. Therapists work closely with the child’s caregivers during the therapeutic process.

Play therapy research has found this form of treatment to be helpful with the following issues:  internalizing behaviors such as anxiety and depression; externalizing behaviors such as aggression, disruptive behaviors, and self-control; attachment issues; loss and bereavement, self-concept/self-esteem, ADHD, and trauma, among others. Play techniques, sand tray, and expressive arts techniques are useful in therapy with teenagers and adults as well, allowing clients to express themselves in ways that often go beyond words. Sand Tray Therapy

Sand Tray Therapy is an expressive play process that is used by children, adolescents, individual adults, couples, families, and groups in the presence of a trained sand tray therapist. It is appropriate for individuals ages 8 to 100.
Wellsprings has two sand tray rooms with thousands of sand tray images that can be used to express, clarify, and gain perspective during therapeutic sessions.

Family Therapy

Wellsprings is committed to providing support to the family system as a whole. The goal is to provide sustainable changes to improve the lives and family systems of our clients.

Behavioral Consultations & Parent Training

Wellsprings is committed to working with parents and caregivers to ensure a carryover from the counseling sessions to the home environment. Consultations are typically part of each counseling session (at the beginning or end), whereas the parent training will likely require periodic scheduled sessions with the parents or caregivers.

Because of the need for confidentiality with older children and adolescent clients, consultations with caregivers may include the clients.

Supervision of Clinicians

The Wellsprings facility is designed to be a training center for clinicians requiring supervision. We recognize and value the importance of sustainability within the profession and passing on knowledge and experience to the next generation of clinicians.
